Head of Management Studies
Emeris consolidates resources and expertise from IIE Varsity College, IIE MSA, IIE-Vega School, and IIE School of Hospitality & Service Management, with a unified approach ensuring a consistent standard of excellence in teaching, learning, and student support.
Emeris Ruimsig has a vacancy for Part Time Lecturers for Accounting modules on the Bachelor of Commerce in School of Management:
- Accounting 1A and 1B
- Accounting 2A and 2B
- Accounting 3A and 3B
The purpose of these modules is to:
- Introduce students to the concepts and principles of appropriate accounting frameworks and policies.
- Develop students’ ability to apply their knowledge of accounting principles and concepts to make informed financial decisions within the business environment. This includes the interpretation of financial information that enables sound financial and investment decisions.
- Further expose students to the principles of selected International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) thereby developing the skills needed to prepare financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Key Performance Areas :
The primary purpose of this position is the development and delivery of effective teaching on qualifications and all associated academic activities such as student engagement and support that will promote student success and learning. This includes responsibility for modules from conceptualisation through to assessment and responsibility for an integrated, effective curriculum within qualifications. Participation in scholarship such as research is also required. Effective lecturers need to be active members of the institutional academic community, contributing to and participating in the development, effective governance, and reputation development of the institution.
- Lecture preparation, delivery and all related teaching and assessment activities across the required modes of delivery.
- Marking of assessments providing timeous and constructive feedback to students.
- Development of ICE activities, learning material such as manuals, assessment instruments and rubrics and memoranda as required.
- Participation in peer review of the marking and lecturing of other lecturers; and
- Participation in lecturing quality assurance and development associated with own teaching.
- May be required to internally moderate assessments scripts that fall within the respective subject fields, where necessary across IIE sites of delivery.
- Assist where required with the experiential learning of students in their programme.
- Conduct student support interventions where required.
- Appropriate academic administration as required.
- Involvement with Teaching and Learning activities, including onboarding, peer reviews, internal moderation and the production of a teaching portfolio.
- Consultation with students to provide academic support.
- Adherence to institutional norms, standards, policies, and processes.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- A minimum of Honours (NQF 8)in one of the Financial Management (CIMA) related fields (e.g. Tax, Accounting,) with Financial Accounting to the third-year level OR NQF level 9 qualification in Financial Accounting.
- Ideally: Chartered Accountant OR Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA) OR Honours/Post-graduate qualification in Financial Accounting.
Minimum Work Experience Requirements:
- Lecturing experience of at least 2 years across NQF 5 to 7 in Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Auditing or Taxation preferable.
- Industry experience of at least 2 years such as completed training contract at a registered firm of Chartered Accountants.
Working Conditions:
- Please note that this is an independent contractor (IC) position.
- Demonstrated capability to lecture, conduct tutorials and seminars at tertiary level in an effective manner in the qualification(s) stipulated at the highest academic level.
- Expertise in learning management systems (LMSs).
- Up-to-date knowledge of curriculum areas being taught.
- Demonstrated capacity to design, set and evaluate assessments at the appropriate level.
- Capacity to engage in inter-campus and inter-institutional team academic and/or community activities.
- High level of communication skills.
- Proven high-level administrative abilities.
- Ability to conducted face–to–face on campus.
Working Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 08:00 -18:00 - subject to module scheduling.
